At around 18 months old, Spike is everything you would expect from a young Labrador mix. Friendly, affectionate and full of enthusiasm for life, he enjoys spending time with people and is always ready for his next adventure. Spike was originally rescued as a puppy by a young man who gave him a loving home. Sadly, due to work commitments requiring extensive travel, he can no longer give Spike the life and stability he deserves. Making the decision to ask for help wasn't easy, but it was made entirely with Spike's best interests at heart. Now Spike is searching for a family who can offer him the permanent home he deserves. He is described as a sweet, balanced and sociable dog who enjoys human company and has a lovely nature. He would suit many types of homes, whether that's an active couple, a family with respectful children or someone looking for a loyal companion to share daily life with. As with any rescue, we would recommend allowing Spike time to settle into his new surroundings and introducing him to new experiences at his own pace. With patience, consistency and kindness, we expect him to flourish. His Ideal Home Spike would thrive with owners who can include him as part of family life. He'll enjoy daily walks, opportunities to explore, plenty of companionship and, of course, somewhere comfortable to curl up after a busy day. Like most young Labradors, he'll benefit from continued training, enrichment and lots of positive experiences as he matures. He doesn't need anything particularly specialised, just a committed family who are ready to enjoy life with a young, happy dog. Breed Insight Labrador mixes are well known for their friendly nature, intelligence and eagerness to please. They tend to form strong bonds with their families and usually enjoy being involved in everyday activities. As active young dogs, they benefit from regular exercise, mental enrichment and ongoing training. Given the right guidance, they often make wonderful family companions who are affectionate, loyal and fun to live with. Adoption Information Spike is currently in Italy and is looking for either a foster, foster with a view to adopt, or an adoptive home in the UK. He will be health checked, vaccinated, microchipped, neutered (if age appropriate), treated for parasites and transported to the UK by approved pet transport before joining his new family. About Spike

What life with Spike looks like

Spike is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Rescue Me Dogs in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spike, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spike?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rescue Me Dogs handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spike on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spike if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Rescue Me Dogs will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Spike already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spike isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rescue Me Dogs early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spike and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
