Spotty

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 10 years

Stray dogs are encountered almost everywhere in Romania. Because there are so many dogs, not all can be helped. Therefore, animal protectors have to make daily choices about who needs help the most. However, all animal protectors generally agree that puppies should always be helped. Small puppies rarely survive without help, as they completely lack the skills and conditions to take care of themselves. Therefore, when Delia, who maintains the Care for Dogs farm, heard about puppies hanging around the railway tracks in January 2014, she immediately jumped into her car to rescue the puppies. The puppies turned out to be shy in the shelter kennel, and because there are very few resources for socialization, they became shy adults. Therefore, Spotty and Pepper have lived their entire lives in the Care for Dogs shelter kennel, never getting the chance for a better life. Spotty is slightly more cautious. People greatly interest him, and he often follows his sister around sniffing at visitors coming into the kennel run. He also eats treats from people's hands during visits, but he easily gets scared away by even the slightest movement. Sometimes, when a visitor has calmly gotten to know Spotty with treats, they have managed to gently pat him on the head at the same time. While the kennel run is bustling, Spotty enjoys following a small distance behind the person and their movements. Spotty has lived in various cage setups in the shelter kennel and has usually gotten along well with others. Currently, in the kennel run of Spotty and Pepper, there is a male dog who is very careful with his treats. After this dog moved into the kennel run, Spotty has started to defend his own treats from other dogs, which is entirely understandable.

Spotty on kaksikosta varovaisempi.

About Spotty

What life with Spotty looks like

Spotty is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Spotty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Spotty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Spotty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Spotty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Spotty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Spotty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Spotty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
