Adopt Steve

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Description Our animal welfare workers report: In its first few months of life, Steve experienced so much pain, fear, and loneliness that it seemed enough to last a lifetime. But it had an angel, who rescued him from our animal rescuer Paula at the small intake station in Craiova and brought him to the cruel killing station Breasta. Regularly, she is on-site to save at least some souls from their death sentence and pave the way to a happy life. Unfortunately, she can only take as many dogs as there are free spots. No dog deserves to be at this place in overcrowded cages, exposed to the elements without adequate food and water, full of despair and hopelessness. That’s where Steve crouched in the corner of his concrete death cell when he was discovered. He was about nine months old, full of fear and despair, and looked at Paula with his gentle eyes pleadingly. She couldn’t leave him behind. At the intake station, Steve quickly showed his rescuer what a loving soul lies within him, but also how deeply hurt he is. His life in the first months until puberty left deep scars. Apparently, Steve was isolated and never experienced environmental imprinting. He was initially very fearful and still feels safest in the house compared to the yard, where other dogs prefer to play around. Steve gets along wonderfully with his fellow animals and shows himself as a caring foster dad for puppies. He also gets along well with cats. With his quiet, shy nature, he touches our hearts. He is not a dog that approaches people but needs someone who meets him patiently, allowing him to come at his own pace, giving him security with daily routines and rituals, and gently accompanying him. When Steve learns to trust, he will be a wonderful, loyal partner for his people. Who would like to give this special dog a life full of warmth, joy, and security and write a new chapter of happiness with him? He has earned it so much. Please note:

About Steve

What life with Steve looks like

Steve is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Steve, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Steve?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Steve on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Steve if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Steve already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Steve isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Steve and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
