Stevie Nicks

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

‘Stevie Nicks’ is a beautiful dark liver & white ticked female with a white tail. She is a natural head turner and most importantly she loves a cuddle and loves anybody who will throw a ball for her. Stevie probably won’t suit a seriously competitive dog handler as she isn't very treat motivated and will very rarely but consistently ghost her owner & go ‘self employed’ on a fox or rabbit scent trail or jump a 5ft Gate/fence heading into a dense patch of brambles if her owner answers their mobile phone or chats to somebody with their back turned to her. She dislikes swimming & hates shotgun gunshot/dummy launcher noise within 5 metres of her sensitive ears but she is fine with fireworks/air rifle noise. She would really enjoy a pet home due to her age being 5 yrs and her weight averaging roughly 23kg. She would also love a life of going for long walks on her harness, possibly a joggers companion if they can do so cannicross style, she is well behaved when visiting cafes, dog friendly holiday homes(with 6ft Fences), camping in a stake out and most of all she needs somebody looking for an active, upbeat companion who is calm, stable and who feels secure to her and wishes to enjoy cuddles with her on the sofa. She is a lovely girl who doesn’t suffer with separation anxiety or nervous aggression and can be left home alone for short periods of time. She can be timid on times and can also get anticipatory excitement so will yip excitedly if wound up during frisbee games, she’s whistle trained and recalls to an Acme whistle, three peeps to come and one to sit. She will leap into a high up 4x4 or pick up with great enthusiasm and speed, then relaxes and is very calm and quiet during the journey. She is very fast like a greyhound when she runs at full speed, she has enjoyed scurry in the past. She can jump a 4-5ft gate/fence/style from a standstill and has been trained to track wounded deer without hurting them (who are then revived and taken to a wildlife vet hospital) on a non shooting country estate. Her current owners are a mature couple with older grown up children and young grandchildren - they sadly can't keep her as they are going through a lifestyle transition and downsize house move so feel its time she was fully retired from working as she has a loving temperament towards anybody who plays ball with her. Stevie is walked on her harness/flexi lead, she loves to stop on walks & can have a good sniffathon. She will make an amazing companion to a single mature person or older fit retired couple who want to go on long walks and explore and who make her feel she is a cherished member of their family. Stevie should adjust very swiftly to her new environment as long as they understand her needs and respond by reassuring her and taking their time to repeatedly re-introduce her if she seems afraid of any new situations. She would thrive if able to play ball retrieving games in a large well fenced garden or secure dog exercise paddock without any other dogs interfering. She can dig up mole & rabbit holes so must be supervised one on one. She is not trained for tug of war games and when in boarding kennels the staff said she became very freaked out when they tried to play tug of war games with her. Her mouth grip is naturally firm(she wont drop it until she gets within a meter of her handler) but her anti/bite reflex is excellent her jaw is very soft and her temperament is gentle. She naturally moves fast when chasing her balls and she has very fast reflexes. She's easy to handle for teeth cleaning/eye & ear cleaning, wet flannel rub downs, towel drying and being brushed with deodorising spray after her walks. She dislikes her nails being trimmed so has this done by the vet or groomer. On times her tail has bled when she’s been into deep brambles after a rabbit, just a few spots and not all the time. Stevie has a scar on her shoulder - she was bitten by a strange reactive XL bully type dog which was totally unprovoked. Since then she will growl and act submissive or run away if a strange XL bulldog type dog rushes up/charges aggressively at her- as she doesn't know if it will bite. It was a superficial flesh wound and didnt make her lame just left a scar and left her wary of the breed. Around other dogs she is very well socialised and has lived in a large group, but due to her recall being tricky, a one on one home would work better as she can lead the well behaved dogs astray, taking them with her when she tracks a fox. She has never lived with a cat but shows no interest in her neighbours cats who visit often - she will join them sitting patiently near them on point in a rat or mouse stake out. She would chase a bird off a sea cliff or run through a flock of sheep to chase a bird ignoring the sheep. She goes on point around rabbits often in deep cover where we cant see her so a gps electric (not a shock type) tracking collar with beep/rattle is something she has been trained to wear. Stevie is great with the visiting toddler grandchild and she’s really enjoyed living with teenagers. She is not yet neutered so this will be done by us as part of our Adoption Contract. If you feel you can offer this beautiful girl a wonderful retirement with an active life full of fuss, attention and ball games please contact us. Stevie is currently in the Berkshire area and will be rehomed with her 5 weeks free Agria insurance and her Adoption Contract. About Stevie Nicks

What life with Stevie Nicks looks like

Stevie Nicks is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Stevie Nicks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Stevie Nicks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Stevie Nicks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Stevie Nicks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Stevie Nicks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Stevie Nicks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Stevie Nicks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
