Sudan

Mixed Breed · Male

Sudan has made great progress since arriving at the animal shelter - with the help of a human guide, he is now better able to cope with shelter life. Established routines have worked and allow for regular, stress-free walks. Sudan loves the yard, especially with ropes, balls, and rubber toys. The human is rather an observer than an active participant in these games, but sometimes Sudan invites to join in the tug-of-war. Toys, as a representative of a TTB dog, are usually torn apart - luckily, he doesn't tend to eat them. He also loves rolling in the grass and sand. Sudan likes walks in the forest, and handles street traffic fairly well, although he definitely prefers quieter areas. Physical effort must be carefully managed due to his age and early signs of joint/spine problems. Despite his age, he is an active and joyful dog. He relies on routine and predictability. New things are often a big obstacle for him, but having a human he trusts by his side, he is becoming increasingly willing to face the unknown. He is rather indifferent towards new people, and it takes effort to earn his attention and trust. He does not have a strong motivation to eat, but he appreciates good snacks after walks in calm conditions. Sudan is not fond of vet visits, but knows the muzzle. He knows the commands sit and shake. He should be an only dog, but on walks, maintaining appropriate distance, ignores other dogs. Sudan is looking for an experienced caregiver who is ready to set boundaries while considering his dog's abilities. He has a tendency to test and push boundaries, but once a relationship is built with a human, he reveals himself as a wonderful dog, whose company is pure pleasure. Zna komendy siad i daj łapę.

About Sudan

What life with Sudan looks like

Sudan is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sudan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sudan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sudan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sudan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sudan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sudan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sudan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
