Adopt Wasabi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Wasabi runs well on a leash but still reacts strongly to environmental stimuli. He is very affectionate towards familiar people but shows insecurity and tension when dealing with strangers. He masters car rides without problems. Wasabi is a son of Bella and, like his 8 siblings, he was born on a farm. Once he and his siblings could eat on their own and were old enough to live without their mother, they were brought to Melampo. Initially, Bella could not be saved because she was so fearful, but she gave birth to another litter of 13 puppies, and now she is also in safety at Melampo and has been neutered. Wasabi has a good character, is social, follows the helpers at the camp, and is playful. In new situations, he is fearful because he knows nothing outside of Melampo. As a puppy, he was very active and a bit crazy with his eight siblings, but now he is calmer. He loves going for walks on the Melampo property with his siblings. He always seeks contact with people. He still needs to get accustomed to all everyday sounds and is not yet familiar with walking on a leash. Wasabi gets along well with both male and female dogs and participates in the daily runs with the group. For the cuddly Wasabi, we are looking for particularly sensitive and patient people who prefer a more remote and quiet lifestyle. It will take time for him to get used to all the normal and everyday things. We wish Wasabi that he will soon live his life with his own people. Wasabi has been neutered. The 9 puppies with Japanese names (Tokio, Sakura, Wasabi, Nazomi, Sudoku, Sushi, Kioto, Tataki, and Yukito) appeared on a farm and were there alone. Perhaps an unintended litter. This remains uncertain. All puppies have been checked by a vet and are healthy. According to their age, they are very active and playful. They appear happy and are very affectionate and friendly to the local volunteers. The puppies are still growing and are likely to get bigger. Precise predictions are difficult, as we do not know the parents. For spaying/neutering, they are still too young. This must be done in Switzerland once the dogs are old enough. Interested parties should be aware that a puppy means not just joy but also a lot of work and requires more time and patience. The puppies are growing up in an animal shelter and have never lived in a home, so they are not familiar with household sounds or routines. Accordingly, it will take a lot of time, patience, and empathy to get them used to everything new and to build their upbringing from the ground up. For people who bring all these prerequisites, it is certainly a great chance to welcome a dog into their life from the start.

About Wasabi

What life with Wasabi looks like

Wasabi is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wasabi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wasabi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wasabi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wasabi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wasabi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wasabi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wasabi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
