Sunflower

Chihuahua · Female · Senior · 9 years

Sunflower enjoys exploring new places, but can get a bit spooked. She would enjoy quieter walks where she can get a few sniffs in, followed by a snuggle on the sofa. She travels well in the car, and will be a wonderful little companion. Sunflower is friendly with everyone she meets, though, can be a bit shy initially. She will quickly warm up and crawl into your lap for a fuss, and will give you lots of kisses. Sunflower would prefer for her new adopters to be around for most of the time, as she will need her leaving hours built up slowly. She loves being around her people - she is such a sweet little girl. We can't wait to see lovely Sunflower living it up in her forever home! Meet pretty girl, Sunflower! Sunflower is looking for her retirement home where she can get all the love and attention she desires! She loves a fuss and a cuddle from her favourite people, and will climb into your lap for a kiss. She would prefer to be the only dog in the home, as she loves the attention all for herself, but would like to make calm doggy friends out and about. Sunflower would like all children in the home to be of secondary school age and over as she's a more timid girl initially, who would prefer a quiet life to live out her golden years.

About Sunflower

What life with Sunflower looks like

Sunflower is a senior chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sunflower, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sunflower?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sunflower on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sunflower if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sunflower already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sunflower isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sunflower and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
