Suzie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Suzie will be turning 1 around the start of August 2026. She is a wonderful, biddable, gentle girl who unfortunately has had very little input up til now. She needs a bit of guidance on the basics but she will be a smashing pet for an active, engaged family. Suzie walks well on the lead and is so reliable off the lead. She loves interacting with her handler and is ripe for any training required to make her into an all-round family pet. Suzie is all goodness and love, she will be fine to rehome with children 8+. She is also very happy and playful with other dogs so homes with or without a companion can all be considered. This girl is clever – we really would prefer a home that will take the time to engage her mind and body with all sorts of fun activities. She has never lived as a house-pet before so do know that house-training will be a feature of her early life with you. Don’t worry, she is smart enough to understand those boundaries pretty quickly! We generally prefer to place collies in rural homes, mainly so that don’t become obsessive with people passing or lots of traffic around etc. Depending on your garden we will consider urban for Suzie as long as there are nice country strolls available as well.

About Suzie

What life with Suzie looks like

Suzie is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at West Cork Animals in Cork.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Suzie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Suzie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. West Cork Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Suzie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Suzie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — West Cork Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Suzie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Suzie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with West Cork Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know Suzie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
