Adopt Szalma

Central Asian Shepherd Dog · Male · Adult · 5 years

Two, extremely shy young male Central Asian Shepherd Dogs have come into our care. Szalma and his sibling, Szena, were born in January 2021. Their current size is already large, and further growth is expected, so we can say that they will be very large dogs. Both of them have their ears cropped. As can be seen in the pictures, they are not as scary as the "breed would suggest." He is very friendly, open to everyone, a young male. No one has told him that he cannot be so kind. They can be socialized with dogs of similar size; currently, he lives with two larger females. Calmer type, although not a houseplant or garden decoration, he likes to walk and hike, but does not run around all day because of his excessive energy. He would probably achieve nice results in dog school, on the right owner's side. Szalma is looking for a home where he can be a full family member. We hope that the person who gives him everything he may not have received so far, a proper, secure home and love, worthy of a dog, a family member. We are only looking for an active, experienced dog owner for him. We do not give him for guarding the premises or as a garden "decoration!" Dog school is definitely mandatory! Szalma is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered and wants to move to a new, permanent family. More pictures HERE!

About Szalma

What life with Szalma looks like

Szalma is a small adult central asian shepherd dog dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Cropped ears, requires dog training school, extremely fearful initially

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Szalma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Szalma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Szalma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Szalma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Szalma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Szalma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Szalma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
