Tahir

Maltese · Male · Adult · 8 years

Tahir - a little fighter is looking for his forever home. The small Maltese terrier Tahir has already been through a lot. Originally from Spain, he came to Germany in very poor condition - emaciated, with bad teeth and barely able to chew. But Tahir is a fighter! After dental treatment - during which some teeth had to be removed - he is now much better. He cleverly takes his food with his long tongue, and finally enjoys life. At his foster home in Germany, it shows what a kind and affectionate little dog he is. Tahir has really blossomed! He lives there with two other dogs, orienting himself well with them and learning every day. Tahir is a gentle, cuddly little dog who loves being close to his humans. He would rather always be with them - wherever they go. Being alone is still difficult for him. He loves cuddling, but does not want to be touched on the face. He walks politely on a leash and is curious and friendly outside. Riding in a car works with slight protest, but without major problems. Tahir is mostly housebroken, but does not yet let his people know on his own when he needs to go out. In an emergency, he uses a diaper. He gets along well with other small dogs, and so far ignores cats. We wish Tahir a quiet, loving home with people who have lots of time and heart. He would be happy as a single prince with full attention, but also as part of a small pack, if his humans give enough closeness and security. Tahir has gone through a hard time - now he only deserves the best: a home where he is loved and cared for, just as he is. Contact his rescuer if you would like to meet Tahir. Here is Tahir's video.

About Tahir

What life with Tahir looks like

Tahir is a large adult maltese dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tahir, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tahir?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tahir on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tahir if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tahir already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tahir isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tahir and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
