Tango

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 10 years

Tango – an loyal character dog is seeking experienced people Tango came to us as a found dog, unfortunately nothing is known about his past. Much suggests that he has not only had positive experiences with people. In new situations, he shows himself initially reserved and insecure, sometimes even fearful. It is likely that he was mistreated in the past. However, once he has developed trust, he binds himself very strongly to his trusted people – and shows a pronounced protective instinct. Tango is approachable with toys, but can also become a bit boisterous or distant in familiar situations. He therefore needs dog experience and clear, sovereign leadership. Even though Tango is still fit and strong at his age, he is still a capable German Shepherd – one should be able to handle him well. What characterizes me I am loyal and develop a strong bond with my primary caregiver. I am physically fit, attentive, and work well with people. I can be motivated with toys. I am receptive to learning and seek leadership. I show myself open and approachable in familiar surroundings. What I still need to work on I am insecure and sometimes fearful in unfamiliar situations. I have a pronounced protective instinct. Outdoors, I react aggressively towards strangers and dogs if the distance is not sufficient. I need clear rules, structure, and anticipatory leadership. On walks, I wear a muzzle – for the safety of all involved. What I am looking for I am looking for a home with experienced, sovereign people – preferably with German Shepherd enthusiasts. I wish for a house with a securely fenced garden – an apartment is not suitable. I should live in a quiet environment so that walks with me do not become stressful. Children and other animals should not live in the household. With a sovereign female dog, I could possibly become friends. I need a firm primary caregiver with patience, clarity, and reliability.

About Tango

What life with Tango looks like

Tango is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle on walks, shows aggressive behavior toward strangers and other dogs, needs secure fenced yard, requires experienced handler

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tango, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tango?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tango on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tango if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tango already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tango isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tango and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
