Tapír

Dachshund · Male · Young · 3 years

Two small dogs arrived from Nagylóca (Nógrád county) asking for help. Their owner moved into a nursing home, so they were left alone, tied up and without care. Both were thin, yet they approach people with incredible trust. The pair includes a young male dog named Tapír, a mixed breed born in 2023 with a dachshund-like body shape. We are worried about them, and we would rather they finally find a safe, loving home where they don't have to live on a leash. We are looking for a family for Tapír who will truly see him as a family member and give him the care he has lacked in his life. We have already provided the missing vaccinations. Tapír is a truly special-looking dog: a real "giant dachshund" type, with funny duck-like legs and a compact size, making him ideal for city living. He is full of energy, loves walks, a true little "Duracell bunny" always ready for a new adventure. Additionally, he is a kind, open-tempered dog who quickly bonds with people. 02.06.)Now (2026.04.15.)More pictures HERE!

A párosból a kisfiú Tapír, egy tacskó testalkatú, fiatal, 2023-as születésű keverék kutyus. About Tapír

What life with Tapír looks like

Tapír is a small young adult dachshund dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Recovery from neglect - was found underweight and tethered

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tapír, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tapír?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tapír on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tapír if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tapír already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tapír isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tapír and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
