Tarquin

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 8 months

Tarquin is looking for an adult-only home and will require outdoor access. Tarquin is a very nervous and worried little lad who is currently feeling overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Sadly, he is struggling to let his guard down at the moment and isn’t yet comfortable with our staff. He spends most of her time hiding away in his safe spaces and is reluctant to interact with our team at the moment. Tarquin desperately needs a calm, quiet and experienced home who can offer him the time, patience and understanding he needs whilst he learns to build his confidence and trust his new family. We have very limited background information on Tarquin’s life prior to his arrival here at the shelter, but we do know he hasn’t had the greatest of starts to his young life. He needs a family who are able to help him be brave and discover that the world isn’t such a scary place. Tarquin will take time to settle into his new home and will require a family who are committed to helping him become the happiest version of herself, no matter how long it takes for him to realise he is safe, loved and can let his guard down. Although his journey may take a little while, we have no doubt he will make an incredibly rewarding companion for his forever family as they watch him come out of his shell and begin living his best life as he deserves.

About Tarquin

What life with Tarquin looks like

Tarquin is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tarquin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tarquin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tarquin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tarquin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tarquin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tarquin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tarquin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
