Teddy-Bedfordshire

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Meet Teddy Teddy is a 3 year old entire, long haired Black and Tan male who is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. Sadly due to his owners health, they are no longer able to provide Teddy with the level of exercise and activity he needs. Teddy is very protective of his home and property and can be vocal when people approach the house or when neighbours are in their garden. It is important that potential adopters are fully aware that Teddy does have a bite history. On one occasion, when the children opened the door to accept a pizza delivery, Teddy bit the delivery driver on the arm. When our volunteer arrived to carry out Teddy’s assessment, Teddy was wearing a muzzle and was very protective of the doorway. He was vocal towards our volunteer but made no attempts to lunge at. Our volunteer and Teddy’s owner then took him out for a walk. Away from the property, Teddy was much more relaxed. He passed people and vehicles without showing any concern or reaction. Our volunteer then took Teddy’s lead and walked him alone for a further 10 minutes. Teddy walked nicely without pulling and listened well to basic commands and instructions. Once they returned to the house, Teddy was comfortable around our volunteer and happily took treats gently from their hand. No aggressive behaviour towards our volunteer was observed inside the home following the walk. Teddy currently lives with older children and is reported to be gentle with them. He has never lived with another dog, although he has spent time around other dogs and his owner reports that there have been no issues. Teddy is house trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. He also loves travelling in the car. He is currently fed once a day on kibble mixed with gravy based wet food. Teddy is a little underweight and currently lacks muscle condition, which is believed to be due to his reduced level of exercise. He is microchipped but is not currently up to date with his vaccinations. Teddy will require an experienced German Shepherd owner who understands protective and territorial behaviour and is prepared to put consistent work into his training particularly doorway and threshold training. His new owner will need to manage visitors and access to the property responsibly while continuing to work on Teddy’s confidence, boundaries and behaviour around the front door. Away from the property, our volunteer saw a very different side to Teddy – a dog who walked calmly, listened to instructions, passed people and vehicles without issue and was happy to interact and take treats gently. Teddy needs an experienced, committed home that can provide him with the exercise, structure, training and appropriate management he needs to thrive. About Teddy-Bedfordshire

What life with Teddy-Bedfordshire looks like

Teddy-Bedfordshire is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at German Shepherd Dog Rescue in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teddy-Bedfordshire, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teddy-Bedfordshire?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. German Shepherd Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teddy-Bedfordshire on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teddy-Bedfordshire if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — German Shepherd Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teddy-Bedfordshire already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teddy-Bedfordshire isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with German Shepherd Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teddy-Bedfordshire and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
