Adopt Teddy

Pomeranian · Male · Adult · 4 years

Teddy was found homeless at the Cologne main train station and brought to us by the fire department. After no owner came forward to claim the little one, we are now searching for a new home for Teddy. In the beginning, Teddy had a hard time adjusting to life at the animal shelter. The constant comings and goings of people and other dogs overwhelmed the young male dog so much that he could hardly find any peace and could not stop barking. After a short time, he also became more comfortable with some of the staff, although Teddy tends to gravitate more towards female staff members. Once his trust is earned, Teddy becomes very playful and demands lots of cuddles. As long as it suits Teddy's preferences, he is an absolute model dog. However, as soon as he feels pressured or when his misbehavior is corrected, Teddy shows his less cuddly side. Whether with strangers or his primary caregiver, he could start snapping to keep the unknown at a distance. It is likely that the little one has not learned many boundaries or rules in his life and that people have let him get away with too much based on his appearance or size. Teddy also has little experience with other dogs and therefore appears larger than he is to prevent them from getting too close. Although training has already been started with Teddy, there is still a lot of room for improvement. For Teddy, we are looking for people who ideally have experience with his breed. His new owners should have a lot of time and patience and know how to handle him. Due to his behavior, no children should live in his new home. As Teddy still needs a lot of work, we see him more as a single dog. If you are interested in Teddy, please feel free to write us a substantive email or call us.

About Teddy

What life with Teddy looks like

Teddy is a adult pomeranian dog waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
