Teddy

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 8 years

This handsome boy is Teddy! He is looking for a patient, understanding home where he can finally feel safe and secure. When he first arrived with us, he was very scared and unsure of the world around him. he was understandably nervous and could be a bit growly when he felt overwhelmed. At the vets he was muzzled as a precaution, but he coped well. Since being in our care, he has started to come out of his shell. He still needs people to take things slowly and allow him to build trust at his own pace, but once you’ve earned that trust, you’ll discover what a lovely boy he really is. One of his favourite things in the world is playing fetch, and seeing his playful side emerge has been incredibly rewarding. He has socialised well with other dogs, so we feel following a successful meet and greet could potentially live with another calm dog. He is looking for an experienced owner who understands nervous dogs and is willing to give him the time, patience and reassurance he needs. He won’t be the type of dog who settles straight away, but with kindness and consistency he will continue to blossom. He will need a private secure garden. The potential adopter will need to commit to multiple, regular meet and greets to allow Teddy to get to know them before the adoption takes place. As Teddy came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on him and as he is still very timid and unsure we would like any children/visiting children to be 16+ years.

About Teddy

What life with Teddy looks like

Teddy is a medium-sized adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
