Tinka

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Female · Adult · 4 years

Tinka is a wonderful girl with so much potential and love to give. She came into our care when her owner became too unwell to look after her. As a result, Tinka had spent over a year without leaving the house and received very little day-to-day interaction or attention. Because of her previous lifestyle, Tinka has some complex needs and will require an adopter who is willing to invest time in building a relationship with her and continuing her training. She is currently learning to wear a lead and harness comfortably, and this work will need to continue in her new home. Tinka should become confident wearing a harness before progressing to longer walks and new environments. Sadly, she can find being separated from her people difficult and has shown signs of anxiety when left alone. We would recommend that any time spent alone is built up gradually and at a pace she is comfortable with, helping her gain confidence and security in her new home. A very clever girl who already knows a range of cues, including sit, down, paw, touch, and recall. She loves training and has the potential to learn so much more. Tinka is highly food-motivated and can sometimes become a little fixated on treats, so we use the cues “Ready” and “All done” to help her understand when rewards are available and when training has finished. Tinka travels well in the car and has demonstrated excellent recall once she has built a relationship with her person. Any off-lead recall work should initially be practised only in a secure field until a strong bond has been established. She will need to have access to her own private, secure garden. This amazing girl would make a fantastic companion for someone who can offer her the patience, understanding, and commitment she needs. In return, she will reward her new family with loyalty, affection, fun, and friendship. About Tinka

What life with Tinka looks like

Tinka is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Bristol Animal Rescue Centre in Bristol.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tinka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tinka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bristol Animal Rescue Centre handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tinka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tinka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bristol Animal Rescue Centre will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tinka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tinka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bristol Animal Rescue Centre early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tinka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
