Tessi

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 16 years

Tessi is a mixed-breed female dog, approximately 14 to 15 years old. Due to the sad loss of her owner, Tessi needs to find a new home, which hopefully will be her last move. The little one has witnessed her owner’s loss and is very dependent on her people, unable to be left alone (she bellows and whines loudly). Naturally, with her age, the typical symptoms are present. Unfortunately, we do not know where her vaccination records and papers are, so it is recommended to have her examined and receive any necessary vaccinations. We cannot say much about her exact health condition since her previous owner, who passed away due to illness, no longer had any records. Tessi is a very quiet and very, very loving female dog. She loves to be with her owner 24/7. She sleeps and eats well (on a diet) and is curious about other animals, sometimes even a bit dominant. Tessi also complains when she has to go out or gets bored and needs attention. She plays with her toys and is very attentive, currently a bit skittish. Tessi cannot go for long walks anymore; she is satisfied with 20 minutes several times a day. Tessi has not learned any commands, but we have noticed that she responds to hand gestures.

DE·Show original

About Tessi

What life with Tessi looks like

Tessi is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tessi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tessi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tessi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tessi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tessi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tessi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tessi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
