Adopt Elvis

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

At our male dogs Elvis, the Name Program is a young man full of power and talent! Even though the wavy-haired terrier-mix still has a lot to learn about life with humans, he is always motivated and shows how much fun he has at work and interacting with people. At first, the appearance can be somewhat deceiving, as he appears a bit skeptical towards strangers. However, this behavior fades after a short getting-to-know-you phase, and Elvis manages to build trust better over time. Although Elvis has already internalized the basic commands, there are still things that need to be worked on with him. For example, he does not like being fixed or handled on his ears and paws. Therefore, during any procedures, he should be securely muzzled. Positive and step-by-step veterinary training/medical training can be helpful here. For these reasons, Elvis is not rehomed to a family with small children, as the risk is too great that he may show what he thinks of a mistaken or uncontrolled touch. At the animal shelter, there was a redirected bite incident with a person who had to be hospitalized on a stationary basis due to the contact with fellow animals. Anyone taking on Elvis must be prepared to secure the dog with a muzzle in everyday situations. Compatibility with others must therefore be tested on an individual basis.

About Elvis

What life with Elvis looks like

Elvis is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle training for veterinary procedures and certain situations. History of redirected bite incident.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elvis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elvis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elvis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elvis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elvis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elvis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elvis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
