Adopt Tiger

Rottweiler · Male

Tiger came to us at the animal shelter completely through no fault of his own. The handsome male dog is generally friendly towards people, but, due to a lack of training, he can also be quite overbearing. He wants to express all his joy, but doesn't realize how much strength he has. Tiger is on the smaller side for his breed, with a heart in the right place. However, patience and frustration tolerance are not yet among his strengths, and these need urgent work. Tiger thoroughly enjoys long walks and is always ready to discover new things. During dog encounters, he gets very excited. Especially when meeting other male dogs, it can happen that he "explodes" and vents his frustration, unable to reach the other dog, by pulling on the leash. If the encounter is conducted with sufficient distance and structure, Tiger can be well managed by confident people. His new owners, who should be experienced with dogs (and breeds) and bring clear and fair leadership qualities, need to urgently work on this issue. Tiger also has a very sweet and sensitive side, loves to play, and enjoys long cuddle sessions, during which he literally lies at the feet of his trusted people. This should definitely be part of Tiger's daily routine. Since Tiger did not live in a house in his previous home, he is not familiar with it. Therefore, we assume that, at least initially, he cannot be left alone. A lot of time and patience, which are also needed for his training, are required for Tiger. This investment will certainly pay off and make him a great companion. We could imagine a confident, adult female dog of a suitable size, though this would of course need to be tested. There should be no cats or small animals. Also, children should not live in his home. A well-secured garden would be ideal. If you are interested, we look forward to a meaningful email with your phone number.

About Tiger

What life with Tiger looks like

Tiger is a adult rottweiler dog waiting at Tierheim Troisdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tiger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tiger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Troisdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tiger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tiger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Troisdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tiger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tiger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Troisdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tiger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
