Adopt Rambo

Rottweiler · Male · Senior · 12 years

Rambo is now once again at the animal shelter. He is no ordinary dog and requires very experienced adopters who are familiar with aggressive behavior, wish to work on it, and can safely handle large, imposing male dogs. This Rottweiler mix is a confident male dog who can be generally socially cooperative, but he selects his people. For Rambo to become a primary caregiver, he must build trust and recognize that he can rely on the leadership quality of his human during a longer trial period. Otherwise, he will take the lead and will not be "talked down to," meaning behavioral corrections could be met with aggression if the human acts insecurely. Aggression towards humans due to frustration (e.g., during exciting dog encounters) cannot be ruled out for Rambo. Toward strangers, Rambo is very watchful and can also go forward, so he must always be secured with a leash and muzzle in public spaces. Adopters should be aware that the muzzle itself is not inherently harmful but a helpful tool to prevent further biting incidents. Rambo wears the muzzle willingly, as he associates it with going on a leash. The future owners of Rambo must present their knowledge of handling dangerous dogs at the local authority before adoption. If you are interested in one of our dogs, please contact us preferably by email. Describe to us how the dog will live with you and send us a phone number. Then, a staff member will contact you. Animal descriptions are based on observations at the animal shelter or information from third parties and do not represent guaranteed characteristics.

About Rambo

What life with Rambo looks like

Rambo is a medium-sized senior rottweiler dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle in public spaces, needs experienced handler with dangerous dog license, history of aggressive behavior

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rambo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rambo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rambo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rambo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rambo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rambo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rambo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
