Tigger

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Tigger is a wonderful, strong guy who has had a lot in life. He has had four operations for cancer, and although he always recovered strongly, the tumor keeps coming back. We are looking for a special place where Tigger can really live, where he can spend his time with love and peace, whether that be months or years. What do we look for for Tigger? A spot where he can enjoy his own pace, his own space. Tigger is experienced with indoor living and is housebroken, can be left alone, knows the crate, and enjoys playing, especially with a ball. He is a loyal dog with a big heart, but also one that needs clear boundaries. His backpack? Tigger reacts strongly to stimuli: cyclists, joggers, cars... During walks, this must be taken into account and there is still work to be done. He is also territorial and can come out of the corner fiercely in unexpected situations. Previous aggression makes us look for someone with experience with powerful dogs. Decisive, but loving. Calm, but sure. Social side of Tigger: He gets along with other dogs and likes to play. He used to live with children, but whether that is still a match must be carefully considered. He doesn't need chaos, but rather understanding, patience, and respect for his boundaries. What does Tigger need? An experienced owner with knowledge of (and love for) large, powerful dogs. A quiet home without too much noise. A place where he can enjoy his golden years without stress or expectations. Love, clarity, and safety. Tigger is not a dog for everyone, but for the right person he is a loyal, grateful dog who will enrich your world, just as you will enrich his. Interested in giving Tigger that last bit of happiness? Contact us. Together we'll see if there's a match.

About Tigger

What life with Tigger looks like

Tigger is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Dierenbescherming Mechelen in Mechelen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tigger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tigger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenbescherming Mechelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tigger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tigger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenbescherming Mechelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tigger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tigger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenbescherming Mechelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tigger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
