Tiki &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

In the animal shelter, life writes daily stories that start sadly but hopefully end beautifully. Tiki has such a story to tell. The handsome Podenco mix was found on the street in Andalusia with his mother. While his mother does have a chip, no one has come forward—so we assume that both the mother and son were simply abandoned, unwanted litters from "useless" hunting dogs. One must be grateful that they are still alive. For Tiki and his loving mother, a new chapter begins at the animal shelter of our friends at EL BUEN AMIGO. Tiki is still a real youngster—just under a year old, curious about the world, and full of life. With a current shoulder height of about 50 cm and a weight of around 12 kg, he brings excellent prerequisites for a future personal trainer. His slender build already hints at a small athlete growing—typical of a Podenco. Character-wise, Tiki is an absolute sunbeam: friendly, playful, open-minded, and always in the thick of things. He gets along well with other dogs; he currently lives with his mother and two other dogs and shows surprisingly good social skills for his young age. He already masters dog language quite fluently—courteously, playfully, and respectfully approaching fellow animals, and can also accept a "no" from his counterpart. But Tiki has even more interesting features. Besides his cute cream spots on his chest and feet, one thinks only of his ears! His bat-like ears give a clear indication of his ancestry. Podenco ears apparently have their own reception mode for biscuit bags within a radius of several kilometers. Added to that is a healthy portion of curiosity—Podencos want to see everything, know everything, and would like to stick their fine noses into everything. Tiki is cheerful, clever, and sometimes a little clownish when his long legs are faster than the rest of his body. Tiki is looking for people who are eager for movement and have plenty of time for adventures with a young dog who still has much to learn. People with a sense of humor, patience, and joy in growing together. With the right guidance, he will surely be a wonderful companion who can capture every heart in a storm.

DE·Show original

About Tiki &#8211

What life with Tiki &#8211 looks like

Tiki &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tiki &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tiki &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tiki &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tiki &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tiki &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tiki &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tiki &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
