Tinky

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

When Tinky was rescued with his mother, the beautiful male dog who now lives in the animal shelter of El Buen Amigo was just a tiny fur ball. As the only survivor of his litter, the puppy had already experienced hunger and cold, and after that came a life in a cage and on concrete floors. Tinky has now spent 7 years in the animal shelter, and even though the small facility run by our friends is warm and loving, it cannot replace a real family. Tinky is still a shy dog who prefers to orient himself around his mother who lives with him, which isn’t really desirable because he has little contact with other dogs and doesn’t really give people (especially men) a chance. While Tinky’s mother loves every affection, goes on walks with every volunteer, and gets along well with other four-legged friends, Tinky’s life revolves around protecting and accompanying her… which isn’t always to her mother’s liking. It’s time for Tinky to meet the special people who will explain the world to him, give him trust, and teach him to trust, show him how to cuddle and relax, how to play and form friendships. For this, Tinky needs dog-experienced companions who will give him plenty of time to understand the new situation, who will be happy with every progress he makes, and who will help him forget the many years in the cage and instead create memories of many wonderful, vibrant, and joyful adventures. Tinky is really a friendly companion who has never shown aggression towards people; he just hasn’t learned yet how to accept love. Towards fellow animals, Tinky is selective. He usually gets along well with female dogs, but other male dogs are a thorn in his side. We would not want to place him as a second dog at the moment, Tinky needs his people for himself so that he can understand in peace that his life is taking new paths. At 7 years old (as of March 2025), our punctual little one is certainly no longer a young pup, but still not too old to learn how to become a happy companion to other people. He is waiting now for your call if you have a quiet and reliable home for one of our forgotten and overlooked ones.

About Tinky

What life with Tinky looks like

Tinky is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tinky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tinky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tinky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tinky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tinky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tinky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tinky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
