Tintin

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Name Tintin Born around 2020, male dog, neutered Breed mixed breed Size approx. 45 cm foster home Tintin is still in a foreign country with our animal welfare friends. He can travel as soon as we find a foster home (preferably with adoption intentions) in the Mainz/Wiesbaden area. The ages mentioned here are often estimates, as we don't always know the exact age. Other details like size are subjective. A loving male dog who has been waiting for his chance to travel, already in a large Romanian animal shelter for 3 long years 🙁 The volunteers write about him: For 3 long years, our sweet TINTIN has been waiting hopelessly in the shelter for his chance. He has already gone through a lot but has still managed to keep his friendly and pleasant nature. TINTIN was delighted by the too infrequent visits and enjoyed being stroked. For this charming little fellow, we hope that this will finally be the last winter in the shelter, and he will soon arrive on the sunny side. TINTIN gets along well with other dogs and is balanced. What we don't know… compatibility with others, with cats, with children, car rides, house training, leash manners… We don't place perfect dogs but surprises 🙂. And we are looking for people who are willing to take on the adventure of an international dog and give them a second chance at a responsible home. Tintin stands in for 100 older dogs/long-term residents who are waiting to experience real life one more time. About Tintin

What life with Tintin looks like

Tintin is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tintin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tintin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tintin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tintin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tintin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tintin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tintin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
