Adopt Tirma

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

What must Tirma have already experienced in her young life. What bad experiences must this young female dog have gone through? She is only 1.5 years old, but humans must have already done her wrong. She was found abandoned on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura. She is a very anxious female dog who retreats from people and had no chance to learn that people can be trusted. Therefore, we are looking for a person for Tirma who is aware of the task of helping an anxious dog. She gets along well with other dogs and is simply a friendly, very small Bardina. Interacting with people is much harder for her. Her first instinct is always to flee and retreat. However, she does allow people to come close to her, but her life in Germany will likely present many challenges. Tirma needs a person who, ideally, already has experience with anxious dogs, brings a large portion of patience, and is willing to take a long journey with her. If you have fallen in love with Tirma and are interested in her, please fill out the interest form right away. You can do so here! This interest form is the basis for a detailed phone call with you, where we are happy to answer all your questions. Your team at Sando e. Was muss TIRMA in ihrem jungen Leben schon erlebt haben. About Tirma

What life with Tirma looks like

Tirma is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Sando e.V. in Vechelde.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tirma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tirma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Sando e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tirma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tirma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Sando e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tirma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tirma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Sando e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tirma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
