Adopt Tirsa

Podenco · Female · Young · 1 year

Tirsa may move to a foster home in Switzerland in April 2026! Tirsa appeared alone and disoriented in the middle of a village. She made a well-groomed and well-cared-for impression. For several days, she stayed in front of the door of a pharmacy, but no one came to pick her up. She was not microchipped, and her owners could not be identified. Due to the danger that she could be run over and because she was obviously abandoned, she was brought to Melampo by one of our volunteer helpers. Tirsa is a young, healthy female dog with a cheerful and very friendly nature. She is outgoing, shows no fear towards the helpers and volunteers, and actively seeks the company of humans. Cuddles are very much her thing. Tirsa is cuddly and playful. With other dogs, Tirsa is highly social. She lives problemlessly with male and female dogs and has been in the run since her first day at the animal shelter with the large dog group. At the vet, she tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. Tirsa is a loving, balanced, and lively female dog that now seeks a permanent, responsible home. We do not know if she previously lived in a household. Therefore, she needs sensitive and patient owners who can give her a home where she can settle in slowly. We ask interested parties to inform themselves about the breed "Podenco" beforehand so that Tirsa can stay here forever.

About Tirsa

What life with Tirsa looks like

Tirsa is a young adult podenco dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tirsa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tirsa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tirsa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tirsa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tirsa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tirsa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tirsa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
