Leo &#8211

Podenco · Male

Info: unneutered, vaccinated, microchipped, MMT negative Stay: 97292 Holzkirchen Leo, formerly a Podenco, a sensitive, friendly, and inquisitive male dog. At times, he can be unsure around people, and he adapts to how people approach him. He mirrors his counterpart; if a person shows sensitivity and has no expectations of him, then he approaches gently. If they want to immediately handle and interact more, he will bark at them. It is not his fault. In the house, Leo is clingy, seeking proximity and is mentally with them. As soon as he goes out, he takes in many pleasant scents and traces, becoming immersed in his hunting world. A suitable training for his prey drive must be well-structured, making them more interesting than anything that moves. Enjoy the process, as it is a good bonding job with much respect and trust-building, a shared learning, experiencing, and respecting. Cadaver obedience does not belong to a Podenco; he is a free spirit and wants to be picked up according to his nature. Leo enjoys movement, goes well on a leash, but only if he is obedient, getting everything as prescribed, being confined frustrates him. He also wants the opportunity to explore his world, to mouse, to dig, to meet friends, play, run … at his speed, mood, and whim. Contact:

Kontakt:

About Leo &#8211

What life with Leo &#8211 looks like

Leo &#8211 is a adult podenco dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leo &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
