Adopt Tjark

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 2 years

Tjark is a young tomcat who unfortunately hasn't had much pleasant experience in his previous life. He lived outdoors for a long time and had to fend for himself, so it's no wonder that direct contact with people initially made him very afraid. But Tjark has made progress. Since he arrived at our shelter, he has shown impressive progress. Step by step, he has learned that people don't just bring fear, but also safety and care. He is still cautious and needs space, but his development clearly shows how much potential he has. Tjark is a clever, learnable tomcat who comes at his own pace. The animal shelter is not the ideal place for him, with too many stimuli and not enough peace. We wish for him a home where he can simply be, without pressure and without expectations. For Tjark, we are looking for a quiet, loving home with plenty of space and freedom. People who don't pressure him but give him the time to make the first step on his own. With patience and understanding, Tjark will take this step 🩷, we are sure of it. He gets along very well with other cats. A friendly, social second cat would be a great help for him, someone he can look to for security. If you would like to meet Tjark, please fill out our inquiry form. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Tjark

What life with Tjark looks like

Tjark is a large young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tjark, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tjark?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tjark on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tjark if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tjark already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tjark isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tjark and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
