Adopt Toby

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Hi... I’m Toby.A little while ago, I was sitting in the pound waiting for my time to run out. I was due to be put to sleep... but then somebody gave me a second chance. Now I’m looking for my forever home, maybe with you?The humans here think I’m around three years old, and they keep calling me a sweetheart. I think that means I’m pretty special. My favourite things in the world are PEOPLE. Honestly, I absolutely adore my humans. I love cuddles, following you around, making you smile, and being involved in everything you do. If you sit down, I’ll probably try to snuggle right into you.I also LOVE my toys. Throw one for me and I’ll be your best friend forever. I enjoy a good shred session, zooming around the paddock, and generally having a great time being a happy dog.I’m a strong boy and I can get a bit excited sometimes, so I’ll need someone patient who can continue helping me with my lead training and teach me how to be the very best version of myself. The humans say I’m eager to please and super willing to learn, I just need someone with the time and love to guide me.I’d be happiest in an adult-only home because I can be a bit bouncy when I’m excited. I can’t live with cats, but I might be able to live with a calm dog friend after careful introductions. What I really need is someone who won’t give up on me. Someone who sees the good boy I already am, and the even better boy I’m trying so hard to become.I’ve already been saved once. Now I’m just waiting for someone to choose me forever. Please apply today! About Toby

What life with Toby looks like

Toby is a young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Toby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
