Toby

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 10 years

Toby is a 9-year-old German Shepherd who is battling cancer. Despite his illness, he still enjoys the simple pleasures of life and deserves to experience the warmth of a loving home. Toby was deeply loved and cared for by his owner before she passed away, leaving him at the shelter without his family or sense of security. He is an affectionate and outgoing dog who loves going on walks and cuddling. Despite his age and illness, he still has a strong desire to live and spend time with people, and seems to be in good physical shape. When out on walks, Toby doesn't pay much attention to other dogs, but as a German Shepherd, he is vigilant and may bark if something catches his attention. He also sometimes snaps at the air, which could be due to decreased vision or hearing common in older dogs. Today, Toby isn't looking for a new life, but rather a peaceful end to his days. A gentle, supportive family who can provide comfort, love, and serenity is what he needs for the time he has left. Veterinary expenses will need to be covered.

FR·Show original

About Toby

What life with Toby looks like

Toby is a senior german shepherd dog waiting at SRPA Veeweyde Brussels in Brussels.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SRPA Veeweyde Brussels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SRPA Veeweyde Brussels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Toby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SRPA Veeweyde Brussels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
