Tom

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Tom, a lovable Border Collie-Kleiner Münsterländer mix, born on May 1, 2018, has unfortunately experienced several misfortunes in his life and has repeatedly lost his home. We wish for him to finally find people with whom he can stay permanently. Tom is people-oriented, enjoys petting and loves being outdoors. His Border Collie side is clearly noticeable: he is energetic, attentive and brings a good portion of willingness to work. People who enjoy physically and mentally engaging him will surely have a lot of fun with him. Tom generally gets along well with other dogs. Joint walks in a dog group are no problem for him. However, there is still some practice needed when encountering strange dogs on a leash. He finds it difficult to remain calm when other dogs come directly towards him. We are looking for people who will meet Tom with patience, understanding and clear, loving guidance. He should finally be able to find peace and experience that a home can really be forever. Who would like to give Tom a chance at a fresh start and show him that he has finally arrived? We look forward to bringing Tom and his future people together!

DE·Show original

About Tom

What life with Tom looks like

Tom is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at TERRA MATER Tierauffangstation Lustadt in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tom, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tom?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. TERRA MATER Tierauffangstation Lustadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tom on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tom if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — TERRA MATER Tierauffangstation Lustadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Tom already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tom isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with TERRA MATER Tierauffangstation Lustadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tom and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
