TOMMY

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Tommy is a small-to-medium dog, eight years old, who has been living in the Netherlands since he was four. He is a dog with energy, intelligence, and a headstrong streak. Outside, he moves through the world on his own, always alert and with a clear hunting instinct. Indoors, he is calm and likes to stay close to his person, content when he can simply join in with everyday life. When meeting new people, Tommy first watches carefully before approaching. He decides for himself when he wants contact, which is why we describe him as a "watching dog" rather than a "cuddle dog." He can get along well with other dogs in the home, but on the street he reacts strongly to fellow dogs, so his owner needs to stay attentive. He can be left alone for up to about two hours. With another dog present, however, Tommy can be alone for longer. Cats are not an option. Tommy enjoys car rides, learns quickly, and is easy to guide indoors. We would love to see him settle in a quiet, rural place where he can safely roam. Tommy is now coming back from adop

NL·Show original

About TOMMY

What life with TOMMY looks like

TOMMY is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa in —.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting TOMMY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about TOMMY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw TOMMY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt TOMMY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is TOMMY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if TOMMY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hondenzorg en Welzijn Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know TOMMY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
