Tornado

Mixed Breed · Male · Baby

male Teddy rabbit, age unknown, likely not yet old Found animal neutered [x] yes / [] no Since March 8, 2026, Tornado has been in our shelter. Tornado was found in Niederweimar and could be secured by compassionate neighbors. Unfortunately, it seems he was abandoned. After his castration quarantine, he now awaits a loving home with a friendly, relaxed female rabbit. He is an alert, lively little fellow and longs to finally arrive. As a Teddy rabbit, he requires regular, gentle fur care, as his dense, soft fur can quickly become dirty and matted – the breed must therefore be considered a labor of cruelty. Due to the lack of a undercoat, he is not suitable for outdoor living alone. For him and a partner, a nice, spacious enclosure with enrichment and retreat options, with a floor space of at least 6 square meters as recommended by the Veterinary Association, should be available at all times. The larger and more additional running space is available, the better, of course. Additionally, attention should be paid to proper nutrition (i.e., not pellets or dry food but fresh greens, good hay, herbs, etc.) and reliable care. We would like to note that, like most small pets, rabbits are well suited as "observation animals" but should not serve as "first own pets" for children. ________________________ (As of April 29, 2026) (Click images to view them in full size!) The description only reflects how the animal is currently behaving in the animal shelter. It may well be that the animal will behave differently in its new home with you and your upbringing! Tags:

About Tornado

What life with Tornado looks like

Tornado is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tornado, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tornado?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tornado on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tornado if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tornado already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tornado isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tornado and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
