Tosia

German Shepherd · Female · Adult · 6 years

Tosia is a long-haired beauty of German Shepherd type who, despite difficult experiences, impresses with her extremely gentle, people-friendly nature. She came to the shelter due to her owner's sudden illness, whom she had previously defended very bravely. This is not a case of a dog found on the street whose past we do not know. She has always been a dog raised with care and love. Here, she quickly showed how much she values contact with a human. She is a caring, affectionate and focused on the person with whom she spends time. After building a relationship, she willingly initiates contact and seeks closeness. During walks, she carefully checks if her human is following her - it clearly matters to her to have him nearby. Tosia loves activity, especially playing with a ball. On hot days, she also enjoys bathing and cooling her beautiful fur in water reservoirs. She is a very cooperative dog, both for food and toys, which makes working with her a lot of fun. On a leash, she moves energetically, but at a pleasant pace. She is very attentive to signals sent by humans and willingly cooperates with them. At the same time, she copes well with the environment - street traffic or passing dogs do not cause her much anxiety. In direct contact with other dogs, she remains rather neutral and does not seek conflicts. However, if another dog behaves aggressively towards her, Tosia can respond. Tosia is a healthy female dog, but due to her age, regular monitoring of her joint condition is recommended. We are looking for a home for Tosia that will be ready to provide her with the right amount of exercise and activity. German Shepherds need not only walks, but also engagement, joint work and contact with a human - and Tosia definitely belongs to those who want to be close to their caregiver. Due to her gentle and affectionate nature, we assume that she could also find herself in a home with children, of course with proper introduction and with safety precautions. Tosia is a faithful, devoted and extremely communicative female dog who has a lot of potential to create a special bond with her human. She is looking for a home where she will not only be loved, but also involved in the daily life of her caregivers.

About Tosia

What life with Tosia looks like

Tosia is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tosia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tosia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tosia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tosia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tosia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tosia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tosia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
