Trish

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Last year, a shy, small Bodeguero dog first entered the animal shelter of our Spanish partners, after being rescued from the street. Bodegueros are usually very energetic, brave, curious, playful, and sociable - but that did not apply to Trish at first. After making great progress at the animal shelter, Trish was able to travel to his current foster home in Germany in September 2023, to take him away from the ongoing stress, hustle, and noise that are common in all shelters, and to prepare him for a life as a family member. This plan is working perfectly, because Trish can now calmly discover how it feels to live in a small group of dogs in a house. It has become clear that he is neither shy nor fearful, but rather observes first with curiosity before becoming active himself, and is delighted when he realizes that all the worries were unfounded. Walks are now a regular part of his day and are carried out enthusiastically. Traveling by car was never a problem, and of course, our "dwarf pup" (yes, foster families always come up with original names for their foster dogs) gets along well with his four-legged colleagues. Toys were something completely new for the approximately two-year-old (as of October 2023) Spatz - clever as he is, he watched the other dogs and what they did with stuffed animals and balls, then tried it himself, and is now an expert in the art of "play and fun". Despite this, Trish is not an excited or demanding dog, quite the opposite: he is surprisingly calm for his age and breed and enjoys cuddle time immensely. In general, he seeks the company of his humans and even allows himself to be convinced to chat on the couch or to sleep for hours in the crook of an arm. Overall, Trish is an absolutely lovable, cheerful, and thoroughly positive little dog who would certainly be happy as a single dog with regular contact with other dogs (and cats are not a problem in his foster home either). Since Trish was accidentally found to be positive for leishmaniasis, he takes Allopurinol daily - he takes the tablets easily and the cost is in the cents range. A cheerful character like our Trish could find happiness both with active retirees and with a family with children - provided there is enough humor to look past destroyed toys with a laugh. Since Trish really wants to please his humans and is quite smart, his training will be more fun than a duty. A concentrated dose of joy, compactly packaged in about nine kilograms of dog, is looking for a five-star home where he can fully feel at home - both on the couch and in the hearts of all family members. Falling in love with Trish is a child's play - what are you waiting for?

DE·Show original

About Trish

What life with Trish looks like

Trish is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Trish, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Trish?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Trish on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Trish if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Trish already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Trish isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Trish and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
