Adopt Truus

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 9 years

I am a 10-year-old cat. I came to the animal shelter a few months ago as a stray and was very shy then. Now I've come around a bit and I look interested when my caregivers enter the room. I like to sniff at them but petting is still a step too far. Because I'm a bit older and shy, I can't relax well in the animal shelter. Therefore, I would really love to have my own home! I want to have the time to relax there without people expecting too much from me. My caregivers expect that once I'm relaxed, I'll be very affectionate! I don't want to share my home with other animals or (young) children. I would also like access to a fenced garden or balcony. Do you have an interest in me and would you like to meet me? Please make an appointment by phone: 46, or come by during walk-in hours! Stichting Dierenopvang Hengelo Zilverstraat 30 7554 NH Hengelo 46.75.18.812 RSIN:

About Truus

What life with Truus looks like

Truus is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dierenopvang Hengelo in Hengelo.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Truus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Truus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenopvang Hengelo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Truus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Truus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenopvang Hengelo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Truus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Truus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenopvang Hengelo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Truus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
