Tye

Lurcher Β· Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Tye could live with children aged 13+. He could potentially live with another well-matched dog, but no cats or small animals. Tye is a lovely young lad who is a quite a sensitive soul. He was a very nervous boy initially when he first arrived here at the shelter and sadly still seems to be struggling with the kennel environment. However, once out and about and away from the noise of the shelter, Tye feels much more relaxed and is able to let his guard down and show us more of his true, lovely, daft personality! Once he’s comfortable, he’s a playful and energetic chap, who loves playing with his toys and having a good run! Tye can be vocal and show frustration towards other dogs – which we suspect is exacerbated by the shelter environment. Once he is actually able to interact with them, he is keen to engage and shows playful behaviours – so he could potentially live with another well-matched dog. His new family will need to be comfortable managing his behaviours around other dogs and able to carefully continue his socialisation to enable him to develop more appropriate ways to manage his feelings. Tye struggles with being left alone whilst in his kennel and this is likely to translate to separation anxiety in the home. He will need a family who are around a lot of the time and who are able to work on slowly building up any time that he is left alone, so that he is able to overcome this. This sweet, intelligent boy needs an active and experienced home who are able to not only keep up with him physically, but provide him with plenty of mental stimulation and the ongoing training he needs to develop into a happy, confident and well-rounded adult dog. He has loved engaging with enrichment activities here at the shelter and needs a home where he can get his brain working! We have no doubt Tye will require time, patience and consistency from his new family when he first goes home, but we know he has the potential to make such a fantastic addition to his forever home and will become an immensely rewarding companion to the family who give him the chance he deserves.

About Tye

What life with Tye looks like

Tye is a small young adult lurcher dog waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tye, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tye?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tye on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tye if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Tye already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tye isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tye and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
