Adopt Urs

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

loving, easy to get along with, initially a bit reserved, Urs was quite a surprise when he ran out of the box... and ran... and ran, almost without end ; -) He may not be very tall, but he's definitely long and sturdy - a real guy, as Urs would say. And beyond that, he's also a really nice guy. He's friendly, easy to get along with, and cuddly, and he simply loves being here. He's very people-oriented and seeks out closeness on his own. He loves to cuddle and snuggles up to be stroked. With other dogs, he's very easy to get along with and lives here in a mixed group of dogs. Outdoors, he's still quite unsure and should come to a more quiet environment. Our Urs is simply and honestly a really great dog! Why he's still with us, well, unfortunately, he's really good at hiding it when strangers come. Consistently, he barks at any potential interest and runs around stressed around anyone he doesn't like. And in a world where so many dogs come immediately, where trust and hearts are not slowly built, where time and patience are needed... well, Urs just always and always comes up short. If people really saw him, as we do, they would simply see a huge dog heart that's well worth the effort to win! A guy who just wants to arrive - even though he doesn't know where he's supposed to be. Because how should he know? He doesn't know much. He doesn't know a home, he only knows the area around the shelter, he only knows us. We would so much wish that the door would open for our Urs and that people would come who see him. Who understand him and don't let themselves be discouraged by the first few rejections. Will it be easy? Probably not. Will it be work? Definitely. But will it be worth it - and for the dog and the person? ABSOLUTELY! Where is the human 6 in the lottery for our Urs? dog-experienced people. A quiet environment. A secure yard. And time, patience, and love. That's what our Urs needs. If someone would like to get to know our Urs again, they can make an appointment with his handler - we unfortunately don't know if he gets along with cats.

Hundeerfahrene Menschen.

About Urs

What life with Urs looks like

Urs is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt in Essen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Urs, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Urs?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Urs on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Urs if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Urs already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Urs isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Urs and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
