utch

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 4 years

Butch has already been rehomed twice. The first time, he came back because it didn’t work well in the household environment with the existing female dog. In his second home, he had to be given up again after a biting incident occurred. Update: Due to a biting incident with a person, Butch is not being rehomed with children. We are therefore looking for a home without children. Butch still requires experienced and confident people who can interpret his signals correctly, give him security, and are willing to work consistently and patiently with him. Under the right conditions, he shows himself to be a loyal and sensitive companion. Our Butch is a beautiful, typical German Shepherd male dog with a big heart—but he doesn’t open up immediately. At first, Butch is very insecure and needs time to build trust. People who bring peace, patience, and a good sense for dogs will gradually win his heart. Once Butch has built trust, he shows all the typical characteristics that Shepherd lovers appreciate: he is attentive, eager to learn, loyal, and wants to please his person. At the same time, he needs clear, loving guidance as well as mental and physical stimulation to be balanced. For Butch, we are looking for dog-experienced people, ideally with experience in handling Shepherds or similar breeds. A quiet home without small children would be ideal, as well as a securely fenced garden. Butch has great potential—he just needs someone who will give him time, offer security, and accompany him with patience through life. Whoever is ready to go this path with him will gain a loyal companion for life. If you would like to meet Butch, feel free to contact us at the animal shelter. He is waiting for someone who sees him exactly as he is.

About utch

What life with utch looks like

utch is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Krefeld in Krefeld.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting utch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about utch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Krefeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw utch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt utch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Krefeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is utch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if utch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Krefeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know utch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
