Vermut

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Vermut is a dog that arrived at the shelter as a very withdrawn and distrustful of humans. For a long time, he needed space to understand that contact with people could be something safe. Today, we can observe the huge progress he has made. He is still a sensitive and cautious dog, but he is getting better at relating to humans and showing how wonderful a companion he can be. Vermut's character and relationship with humans still need time to fully trust new people, but he has made a huge step forward. In the kennel, he is happy to approach a person, enjoys their presence and increasingly seeks contact. He is still a bit shy, but he lets himself be petted and easily allows himself to be leashed. This is a dog that builds relationships gradually. He is not the type of dog that imposes himself on humans, but it is clear that he increasingly appreciates their presence and support. Vermut walks nicely on a leash and does great on walks. He feels especially good in a natural environment, such as a forest or quiet walking areas. It is an environment that is important to him. During walks, he is more interested in the environment - sniffing, observing and getting to know the world. Currently, this is more important to him than treats or direct interaction with humans. However, this does not mean that he lacks the potential to build relationships. On the contrary - with regular work and spending time together, the bond with the caregiver will develop gradually. He is an active dog who needs the right amount of exercise and activity. At the same time, he is surprisingly calm and balanced for a terrier. Vermut gets along very well with other dogs. He currently lives with a smaller female dog Riri and is a huge support for her. It is thanks to him that Riri has started to gain courage and take steps towards getting to know the world. Despite being a withdrawn dog himself, he is now able to give a sense of security to other dogs. It is clear that he does well in relationships with representatives of his species. If he were to live with another dog, it would be necessary to get acquainted at the shelter beforehand. Due to his terrier predispositions, we do not recommend him to a house with cats. He may have a tendency to chase smaller animals, so a cat-free home would be a safer solution. Home with children If it comes to children, it will be necessary to get acquainted beforehand. Vermut is a sensitive dog and needs time to trust new people. Like any dog, he will also require teaching children how to properly interact with animals and respect their boundaries. Therefore, the decision to adopt a dog to a home with children should be preceded by a calm acquaintance and observation of his behavior. What kind of home is Vermut looking for? He will find the best in a house with a garden. As a dog of the terrier type, he may exhibit behaviors characteristic of this group of dogs. In a house with a garden, he may dig holes, and during walks, he may be interested in traces of wild animals. Therefore, it will be important to properly secure the property and continue teaching the recall and rules of joint functioning. He will find the best in a home with a caregiver who understands the needs of an active dog and will patiently build a relationship with him. Vermut is a dog who has undergone a huge transformation. From a withdrawn and distrustful dog, he has become a wonderful companion for walks, who is increasingly opening up to humans. He is a smart, calm and very valuable dog who deserves his own home and a person who is ready to show him that the best stage of life is yet to come. Podczas spacerów najbardziej interesuje go środowisko – węszenie, obserwowanie i poznawanie świata. To właśnie dzięki niemu Riri zaczęła nabierać odwagi i wykonywać kolejne kroki w stronę poznawania świata. Rasa : Mieszaniec w typ. About Vermut

What life with Vermut looks like

Vermut is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Frequently asked

Adopting Vermut, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vermut?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vermut on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vermut if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Vermut already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vermut isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vermut and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
