Adopt Viktor

Male · Young · 3 years

Viktor was found in a box near the trash containers. We know nothing about his past, but it seems that he was neither well-treated nor sufficiently cared for for a long time. Now he is safe in Melampo and waiting for his chance. During a veterinary examination, a superficially situated pellet from a BB gun was found in his abdominal area in an X-ray. It does not affect any organs or important structures and is currently causing no further problems. Additionally, Viktor was diagnosed with epilepsy with partial seizures, which means he needs to be treated with medication permanently. His blood values and all other tests were unremarkable, and he tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. Unfortunately, Viktor has a neutered testicle and therefore cannot travel to Switzerland. Despite this, he has maintained his affectionate character: His eyes show no resentment but a desire for closeness, security, and affection. Character-wise, Viktor is an especially pleasant dog. He is calm, friendly, obedient, and rather submissive. He meets people very affectionately and enjoys every form of attention and affection. He is clingy and grateful towards the volunteer helpers. Also in dealing with other dogs, he behaves socially and avoids conflicts. Therefore, he can do well in the large dog group during daily walks. For Viktor, we wish for a quiet and loving home with people who can give him security and are willing to responsibly accompany his epilepsy. Viktor is a gentle dog who, despite his past, has retained trust in humans and now wants to arrive. We hope that for Viktor, there will be a wonderful home in Spain or another country.

About Viktor

What life with Viktor looks like

Viktor is a young adult dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Viktor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Viktor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Viktor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Viktor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Viktor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Viktor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Viktor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
