Adopt Vin

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Our little Vin came to us from the US Airbase. His owner had to return to the States and couldn't take his dog. He is a real optimist and has settled in quickly with us. He is very food-oriented, well-mannered, and house-trained and can stay alone without any issues. He also travels well in the car without whining or vomiting. At the vet, he underwent a proper examination. However, it is once again very clear with Vin that the human makes the dog. If he has a very clear person with leadership qualities who places him in the second row, Vin can behave well. "Lulli Pulli" people who simply let Vin act on his own and do not take away his responsibility have a hard time with Vin. As soon as Vin senses weaknesses in the leadership, he tends to pull on the leash. Here, it requires experienced people who can clearly show Vin through good leadership that he is not alone and must take on responsibility. He is not compatible with other dogs. The gender of the other dog makes no significant difference. According to the previous owners, he had very little contact with other dogs in the past, and here it has been shown in tests with different dogs that he is not compatible. Therefore, Vin will be secured with a muzzle during walks and will absolutely handle it with sovereignty. This should be kept in mind by any potential interested parties in the future. With his trusted people, Vin is a very soft, obedient dog who is easily impressed. He bonds closely with his primary caregiver and then is extremely cooperative and diligent. Unfortunately, he simply had bad luck not being sufficiently supported by his people as a puppy. He now needs people who can guide him onto a good path and are willing to invest time and effort in him. Foreign individuals must first establish their standing to be taken seriously by him. Therefore, we do not see Vin as suitable for beginners or families with children. Vin still wants to sit at the desk a little and is looking for experienced people who can guide him and offer him a great, varied life.

About Vin

What life with Vin looks like

Vin is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Koblenz in Koblenz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Koblenz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Koblenz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Koblenz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
