Vira

Female · 2 years

Vira is an amazing cat who smiles at us with the hugs she gives and her desire to play. It will be hard for us to part with her, but we have no doubt that she will fill her new home with happiness and laughter. The condition in which she arrived at us did not allow her to show how wonderful a cat she actually is. Vira, together with the whole team and with the help of our followers, went through many transformations to be ready to look for her family. Vira's story begins one morning when the person who used to feed her found her lying motionless and helpless. He immediately brought her to our clinic and when they saw her, our colleagues took her in an emergency. The cat could only slightly raise her head and experienced serious discomfort and pain. The tests for infectious diseases and blood work were normal and did not reveal the cause of her condition. Only a wound on the front of her neck, which by itself was not dangerous, led our doctors to assume a possible head and brain injury. In this case, an X-ray was scheduled, which showed displacement between two cervical vertebrae. This condition hindered nerve conductivity, blocked the transmission of signals to the body, and prevented the animal from moving. A prolonged medical treatment was started and gradually Vira began to move her legs, then slowly managed to raise her head, tried to get up and finally - to move. Everything was fine until the medication was stopped. Soon after that, Vira's old condition began to return. She had just started to show us how playful a cat she actually is, and we didn't know if she would be able to fully recover. With your help, we managed to give Vira the necessary care. Close monitoring of her condition allowed us to orient towards another medication, which gave the necessary result. We can confidently say that Vira's treatment is complete and she not only can move freely, but also calmly engages in her favorite activity - climbing. Vira loves attention and as soon as she gets it, she snuggles and starts purring with pleasure. She loves to climb onto our shoulders and watch what is happening from there. Of course, she gets along wonderfully with other cats, who she immediately invites to fun games. When they get excited, Vira cuddles up to her friend and starts grooming him.

About Vira

What life with Vira looks like

Vira is a small adult dog waiting at Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) in Sofia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Recovered from spinal injury affecting nerve conduction between cervical vertebrae

🇧🇬Adopting from Bulgaria

Bulgarian shelters typically include full vet workup, sterilization, and passport. Many coordinate with EU rescue partners for direct transport to adopter cities in Germany, Netherlands, and Austria.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (BG). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
