Vitani

Mixed Breed · Female

Estimated birth date: 12.2018 From animal shelter since: 12.2023 Sex: female [spayed] Weight: 23 kg Vaccinations/flea treatment/chipping: YES, chip 616093992561816 Diseases: none Activity: average Relationship with dogs: positive Relationship with other animals: unknown Relationship with children: unknown Temperament: Vitani is a female dog in middle age, of German shepherd type, who shows by her behavior how much she needs human contact. She responds to calls, wags her tail joyfully and loves to be petted. At the animal shelter she is strongly stimulated, the barking of other dogs stresses her, causing her to pull on the leash. However, outside the walls of the animal shelter she can walk beautifully on a loose leash, focuses on the handler and gladly cooperates. For treats she will sit or shake hands, and on the yard she sniffs, runs and spends time with the person. The sight of other dogs interests her very much, but on walks she can quickly let it go and focus on sniffing. This is a female dog that has been in the animal shelter for a long time, which does not affect her well. With more contact with people she can be herself, and a closed cage and walks with volunteers are not enough. She dreams of an owner with whom she could go on long walks, spend time and just be close.

About Vitani

What life with Vitani looks like

Vitani is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vitani, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vitani?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vitani on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vitani if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vitani already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vitani isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vitani and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
