Vitto

Mixed Breed · Male

My name is Vito, and it’s clear that I come from Spain—but I don’t want to talk about that life. My life really began when I came to Germany. Unfortunately, though, things didn’t go as smoothly here either. Fate and life aren’t always kind. Right now, I’m living at a foster home with two other dogs, sometimes even more. But that doesn’t bother me at all; on the contrary, I’ve found my perfect match in the family’s Galgo. It’s so much fun running around and really letting off steam with him—and he loves joining in on my rough-and-tumble play too! The wilder it gets, the better—until the foster mom steps in, but I’ve learned that rule already. As you can imagine, making the transition from being an only prince to living in a multi-dog household wasn’t easy for me. What I didn’t realize right away was that there are rules I absolutely have to follow. For example, when it comes to feeding: no jumping up to grab the food bowl—I have to sit patiently and wait until the bowl is placed right in front of me. And I can honestly say that I’m almost perfect at this now. Speaking of perfect, my foster mom says I walk perfectly on the leash. It’s only when I encounter other dogs—especially ones I don’t know yet or that bark—that I still get pretty excited. But we’re practicing and training, and it’s already getting better. And with treats, I can learn even faster! All by myself, I figured out how to manage the open wooden staircase leading upstairs, because now I get to sleep in my foster mom’s bedroom. I love knowing exactly where she is—when she goes down to the basement, I’m right there with her, of course, as long as I’m not fast asleep. 😉 I’ve also met cats already—there are plenty of them here in the village—but my foster mom isn’t quite sure yet whether I’ll get along with cats. Sometimes I react, sometimes I don’t—probably it’s just the movement itself that triggers something in me. If you’d like to get to know me and see for yourself that I’m a truly charming, young Galgo male, feel free to get in touch and come visit me. I’d love to have my own family—one that’ll embark on this shared adventure of life together with me. A family that shows me that rules, boundaries, and routines make cohabitation easier—and yet still bring lots of joy!

About Vitto

What life with Vitto looks like

Vitto is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vitto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vitto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vitto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vitto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vitto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vitto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vitto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
