Hundedame Valesca

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

The mixed-breed female dog Valesca, born around 2003, was found almost still a puppy in a ditch beside the autobahn near Berlin. Valesca was brought to a Berlin animal shelter, from which she was later transferred to the animal shelter in Rüsselsheim. Here, our former second president, Ute, became aware of her and took care of her, eventually taking her in. Ute and Valesca were inseparable. There was a very close relationship between the two. After Ute’s death on August 28, 2014, Valesca found her new home with Ute’s mother. In November 2014, Ute’s mother went on a trip, and we agreed to take Valesca in for the time being on the animal farm. This was done with mixed feelings: during past visits, it had always become clear that Valesca did not feel comfortable on the animal farm. The pack life was completely new to her, and the many dogs made her afraid. She always sought a retreat in the form of a brought-along dog box. On November 6, 2014, we therefore picked up Valesca. What then happened was not only incredible but simply wonderful! Upon arriving in Irmenach, she got out of the car, looked around, and then inspected the farm. Gradually, she got to know the dogs living there, and there was no trace of fear or shyness anymore! Within a short time, she went into the house, was right in the middle of the pack, and clearly felt comfortable! Valesca had always been a somewhat "picky" eater, but that was no longer noticeable with us. Ute’s mother could hardly believe this development. When she picked up Valesca at the beginning, she had said: "I will definitely take Valesca back to me!" Now, she told us: "I cannot take that from Valesca! If she feels so comfortable, she of course can stay on the farm forever!" What a great joy and certainly in Ute’s spirit! On July 31, 2017, we had to say goodbye to Valesca, as she embarked on her journey to Rainbow Land. Already in the week before, Valesca had no appetite, and her breathing was fast and heavy. The vet’s diagnosis was devastating: Valesca had tumors in the lung, liver, gallbladder, and spleen. She was treated with medication to make breathing easier and to stimulate her appetite. But she completely stopped eating and her breathing became increasingly harder. Unfortunately, we could no longer do anything for Valesca, and she was put to sleep in Ruth’s arms. We will never forget you, Valesca, and someday we will all see each other again.

DE·Show original

About Hundedame Valesca

What life with Hundedame Valesca looks like

Hundedame Valesca is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hundedame Valesca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hundedame Valesca?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hundedame Valesca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hundedame Valesca if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hundedame Valesca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hundedame Valesca isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hundedame Valesca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
