Adopt Wanda

Whippet · Female · Adult · 5 years

Wanda is a lovely girl from around early March 2021. Her owner could not take care of her for a long time because he was very sick himself. Because of this, Wanda could not leave her home for a long time. She was terrified when we picked her up and did not understand what was happening to her. It took days before we could approach her. Gradually, she started seeking more contact, and once the first touch happened, she suddenly realized that we meant well. In a short time, she let us in more and we even managed to take her outside for a run on the meadows. A week later, she dared to go for a walk outside the premises as long as you first cuddled with her. She lies down thoroughly and also likes to wriggle herself halfway up (it doesn't quite fit entirely). Wanda has an extremely soft character. She does not like loud voices and curls up to hide. Wanda is dog-social but also shows that too many noisy barking dogs are too much for her. If they are too rough with her, she clearly says 'do not' and seeks support from you. Calm dogs she immediately greets and then also cautiously challenges to a race. See who can run the hardest. We are looking for someone who knows how to handle her delicate soul. Let her experience again with lots of patience and love that everything will be okay. And in return, you will get endless cuddles. Think Wanda fits with you and you fit with her, then fill out the form below quickly and who knows, you might soon be able to cuddle her.

About Wanda

What life with Wanda looks like

Wanda is a adult whippet dog waiting at Hokazo in Uden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wanda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wanda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hokazo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wanda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wanda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hokazo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wanda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wanda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hokazo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wanda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
