Wedel

Male · Adult · 7 years

Wedel came to the animal shelter with a memory from his previous life - a large lump on his chest. Fortunately, it's just a memory now, the operation to remove the lump was successful, and the tests confirmed that the change was benign. Thanks to this experience, we know that Wedel bravely endures being at the veterinarian and all medical procedures, such as injections. He easily allows himself to be put on a muzzle. As a boxer-type dog, he is gentle and friendly towards people. He quickly trusted us and from the beginning sought contact with us. He does not refuse cuddles and petting. It is clear that he lacks this. His large body houses an equally enormous heart! ❤️ At the animal shelter, Wedel does not always know how to handle close contact with other dogs. Initially, he gets excited at the sight of them, but over time he can relax and focus on exploring the area. Definitely needs a caregiver who will support him in this regard. He much better finds his way in the urban space. He already rode with us on the "Adopt a Warsaw Dog" events and on full-day trips, for example, to Mokotów Field. He is not scared by street noise, passing people, carts or bicycles. He also handles dogs well in these conditions. When he sees a dog running freely, sometimes he approaches, sometimes he politely passes by. He appreciates when he has space and support from his person in such situations. Riding the bus is not among his favorite activities, but he spends the trip quite calmly. He enters the car without problems, but sometimes it's hard for him to sit still on the back seat. Obviously, he would like to take the wheel and decide on his own where we should go. Maybe he liked the time when he visited Warsaw cafes and would like to repeat it! On walks, he walks slowly and on a loose leash. Calmly crosses paths and discovers nearby scents. He beautifully follows the person and reacts when called. We don't know Wedl's relationship with cats - we would gladly get to know him during the adoption process. He is gentle and friendly towards children, but in excitement and emotions, he can jump on a person and this should be taken into account. Parents should provide Wedl with his safe space at home, as well as ensure that the child respects the dog's space. We are convinced that Wedel will be a wonderful dog companion. He is looking for people with a sensitive heart who will provide long walks in nature. An apartment with an elevator will be an additional advantage. Future caregivers of Wedl should provide him with thoughtful dog contacts to develop his social skills. We encourage you to follow our social media, where you will find more photos and videos with Wedl:

Gdy widzi swobodnie biegającego psa to czasami podejdzie, czasami ładnie go minie. Nie znamy stosunku Wedla do kotów - chętnie go poznamy w czasie procesu adopcyjnego. About Wedel

What life with Wedel looks like

Wedel is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs socialization support with other dogs and requires experienced handler for dog interactions

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wedel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wedel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wedel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wedel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wedel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wedel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wedel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
