Wendy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

A striking, beautiful "werewolf" discovered at the animal shelter is just discovering life. She is incredibly affectionate and desires a place as a single princess. Wendy came to the shelter in early November. Her owner had passed away, and the beautiful, approximately seven-year-old dog was left alone. She could not stay with her owner's relatives as she did not get along with the existing dog. Therefore, she is now looking for a new home from the shelter. We were able to meet her during our January trip and met an absolutely friendly, affectionate dog that enjoys being petted and stroked. She is very attentive and tries to understand what is expected of her, even with strangers. Wendy is currently learning to walk on a leash with her walker Anna Andrea; as you can see in the video, she immediately starts to run in a circle at the end of the leash radius. Therefore, the MASA team suspects that Wendy was kept on a chain for a long time and therefore immediately turns around as soon as the end of the radius is reached. However, since Wendy is a very clever, willing-to-learn dog, she has already made great progress. She enjoys running and sniffing everything. In dog encounters, she has reacted very clearly - not with barking and "moving forward", but rather with something like icy calmness and a staring gaze. It is suspected that she was never able to interact with other dogs as a guard dog and therefore is not accustomed to communicating with other dogs in a way other than keeping them at a distance. Of course, in a good, needs-oriented dog school and with well-guided social walks, work can be done on relaxed dog encounters and compatibility, but there is no guarantee. Therefore, we would like to safely place Wendy as a single dog, as it cannot be predicted whether she could live stress-free with a companion dog. If it turns out over time that Wendy appreciates the advantages of friendly dog encounters, there would be nothing against possibly taking a second dog in later. :) Whoever decides on Wendy will enrich their life with an absolutely devoted, affectionate dog that will undoubtedly become very close to their humans. She is already spayed and examined by a veterinarian; her filariasis tests are negative. Thus, the "werewolf" could pack her bags at any time and start a new, happy life. Have you fallen in love with Wendy and would you like to give her a loving home? Then please contact us. Please read the information on our homepage in advance about the placement process and around the topic "dog". We have prepared extensive information materials for all areas. They are then completely vaccinated, freshly dewormed, treated with a spot-on against ectoparasites, tested for Giardia and possibly freshly treated, with a blood test with organ values and tests for the diseases that occur in Hungary. In addition, all dogs travel with a suitable safety harness and with a GPS tracker including 1 year premium subscription. Click on the "self-disclosure" link so that the PDF file opens.

About Wendy

What life with Wendy looks like

Wendy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Canifair e.V. in Kaarst.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wendy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wendy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Canifair e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wendy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wendy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Canifair e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wendy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wendy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Canifair e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wendy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
